Pastor Laura Fitzpatrick-Nager
January 1, 2014
Dear New Friends of First Church,
Happy New Year 2014! I wish each of you a joyous and healthy New Year. It is an honor for me to be called as your pastor to a shared ministry with First Church. I am grateful for your welcoming spirit as a community and for the hopes and dreams I’ve heard spoken about as we begin a new chapter together.
As a winter Nor’easter makes its way toward us, I am reminded of the joys of an unexpected change in routine and the breathtaking beauty of a snowy blizzard. And, along with this beauty comes the hard work of shoveling and bracing against the seemingly endless days of cold and ice. The ups and downs of the journey of faith is like that—moments of amazing grace paired side by side with the tiring grind of loving and living each day.
May the sacred stories around the manger embolden each of us to keep the light of faith alive as we step forward together into this New Year. May the mystery of a God-alive-with-us be born again as love within each of us. As the poet Mary Oliver reminds me, “Imagine! Imagine! The long and wondrous journeys still to be ours.”
